Calderdale's Local Area
Agreement
Calderdale’s Local Area Agreement
contains the detail of local priorities that are identified in
the Sustainable Community Strategy. Local Area Agreements
provide a means of improving some of the key long-term
challenges faced by local authorities and their partners
which need to be
addressed if we are to improve the sustainability of
communities.
Local Area Agreements (or LAAs) are
three-year agreements that are developed by local councils with
their partners in a Local Strategic Partnership. Each area’s LAA
is negotiated with the Government Office for the region, before
being agreed and signed off by the Secretary of State.
Calderdale’s Local Area Agreement is
based on, and helps to deliver the Sustainable Community
Strategy. LAAs are updated, or refreshed, annually to allow for
changes.
Calderdale's LAA2 covers the
period 2008 – 2011 and has been
refreshed for 2010. To

The refreshed LAA was approved by Calderdale Council
and was signed off by the Secretary of State for
Communities and Local Government at the end of March 2010.

Calderdale Forward has also
developed Calderdale’s Story of Place which sets out the
District's opportunities and challenges, ambitions and vision.
The Story of Place has being embedded in the narrative of
the Sustainable Community Strategy.
A Local Area
Agreement allows funding to be used flexibly between services in
delivering outcomes that benefit the local community.
Three main areas for improvement in Calderdale have been
identified: safeguarding Calderdale’s future, both in terms of
the economy and the environment, fostering economic prosperity, narrowing the gap between the deprived and better off parts
of the district on issues such as health, housing, educational
attainment and opportunities, and economic well-being.
