Project description:
The purpose of the project is to create a framework and pilots for a Totally Locally shop that is owned by a community and provides locally sourced products and services. The pilot would run for 18-24 months with a view to rolling out to suitable locations across the District. The shops will compliment existing businesses in the area by offering late night opening alternatives and another outlet for local revenues. The shops will be commercially profitable businesses and will increase employment in the areas that they are set in.
Attached to the shops will be services dedicated to the promotion of new businesses and products; and will include a program of support for people looking to start up, improve businesses or find business support. When the best practise model has been identified, the intention would be to roll out the program to further areas. The project will aim to increase jobs in the areas where the Shops are set up (approx 10-15 jobs per shop), increase revenues of the local businesses and suppliers and improve the local supply chain and added value at each link.
